Where To Go In An Animal Emergency
You may have heard about the sudden suspension of emergency veterinary care on Bowen Island: Bowen Vet Services will be closed for the entire summer until after Mountainside Animal Hospital on the North Shore opens. Happily, Dr Sandra Madden can provide non-emergency coverage for the rest of July on her visits to Bowen. But what about pet emergencies?
CAWES has compiled this list of animal hospitals that are open 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, along with the number for Cormorant Marine water taxi and a pet-friendly taxi company on the North Shore. We can also help in cases of financial need: see below.
Cormorant Marine water taxi (animal friendly): 604-250-2630
North Shore taxi (animal friendly): 604-922-2222
24 hour animal hospitals:
Burrard Animal Hospital & Emergency
1788 West Broadway, V6J 1Y1
(corner of West Broadway & Burrard)
Vancouver Animal Emergency & Referral Centre
2303 Alberta St, V5Y 4A7
(near Cambie & 7th)
1988 Kootenay St, V5M 4Y3
(East 1st & Boundary – almost in Burnaby)
Atlas Animal Hospital & Emergency Vancouver
5696 Fraser St, V5W 2Z4
(at East 41st & Fraser)
Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital
20434 64 Ave, Unit #204, Langley
Animal hospitals open 7 days a week but not 24 hours a day:
Norgate Animal Hospital
1435 Marine Drive, North Vancouver, V7P 1T5
(just before Philip Ave, just after Pier 1 Imports)
We suggest you call in case they have a vet there, even after hours, though they will probably refer you to one of the 24 hour hospitals
Delbrook Mall Animal Hospital
3759 Delbrook Ave, North Vancouver, V7N 3Z4
(north from Westview exit off Highway 1)
Open 7 days a week from 11am-11pm
CAWES is concerned that no animal in need of emergency care should suffer because of financial need. Therefore, until Mountainside Animal opens, CAWES will refund 50% of your travel costs after the event, on presentation of the vet receipts, water taxi bill and taxi bill. And as always, CAWES will consider helping people in cases of financial hardship, and we have a process for that.
Emergency Transportation Fund:
CAWES is setting up an Emergency Transportation Fund and we invite members of the community to make donations to this fund, where you can specify the purpose of your donation.
